Do you have an interest in becoming a piano tuner / technician?
If you have an interest in learning piano tuning and technology, there are several ways to embark on your learning path: 1. Attend a school as a full time student - This requires locating to the school for a focused full-time curriculum. 2. Enroll in a correspondence course - These generally supply tools and exams as the student progresses through the study materials. Some are solely correspondence while others offer some form of on-line guidance and evaluation. 3. An apprentice-type learning under personal instruction of an experienced tuner/technician - With this approach, a local technician creates learning assignments along with personal instruction and job shadowing. This may also be a way to enhance #2 where a correspondence course of study can be applied under the eye of a technician. Joining a trade organization, such as the Piano Technicians Guild, will provide on-going skills development and peer instruction. I prefer a combination of #3 & #2 where an interested person gets started with some basic tools and instruction to give the student a chance to see what tuning is all about. After a few months, the prospective student can choose their path forward and consider several courses of study and the investment required. Once enrolled in one of the available correspondence courses, I can be available as a local advisor to assist in the learning process for the apprentice student. If you have an interest in learning piano tuning and technology, send me an email and we can find a time to discuss it further.
